Successful second Summer School
The second centre Summer School, was held at Chalmers University of Technology on 19-21 August 2025. The theme was on long-term energy storage with focus on PEM fuel cells and electolysers.
Last year, the school was focused on energy storage solutions with a quick response, hence technologies like batteries, capacitors and supercapacitors, also touching the topic of interfaces and power electronics. This year, the aim was to cover a complementary part of the energy solution panel, that is long-term energy storage. In this context, hydrogen is an important energy carrier that can be produced, stored and then reused to produce electricity. Hence, PEM fuel cells and electrolysers were explained at the component, single cell, and system level.
"All teachers were super engaged; we have had a number of meetings to prepare and align to each other topics, which I think gave the sessions a good coherence. New for this year was having exercise sessions directly coupled to each lecture, a new format that I believe the students appreciated. A lot of questions were posed during the lectures, some of which smoothly turned into a dialogue," says co-director Anna Martinelli, organiser of the summerschool.
The first day was in Chalmerska Huset downtown, a beautiful building that offered functional rooms and delicious food. The second and third day, were in the student union house at Chalmers, where two parallel sessions were held during the second day. The days also included two evening dinners.
"To conclude, I want to thank Anna Abelius for the continuous support during the whole process of organizing this school as well as the whole management group of SESBC for giving feedback during planning. Now, it is already time to start thinking about the next, and 3rd SESBC summer school!" says Anna Martinelli.
